Sport Injuries Statistics.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), participation in organized sports is on the rise. Nearly 30 million children and adolescents participate in youth sports in the United States. This increase in play has led to some other startling statistics about injuries among America's young athletes:
  • High school athletes account for an estimated 2 million injuries and 500,000 doctor visits and 30,000 hospitalizations each year.
  • More than 3.5 million kids under age 14 receive medical treatment for sports injuries each year.
  • Children ages 5 to 14 account for nearly 40 percent of all sports-related injuries treated in hospitals. On average the rate and severity of injury increases with a child's age.
  • Overuse injuries are responsible for nearly half of all sports injuries to middle and high school students
  • Although 62 percent of organized sports-related injuries occur during practice, one-third of parents do not have their children take the same safety precautions at practice that they would during a game.
  • Twenty percent of children ages 8 to 12 and 45 percent of those ages 13 to 14 will have arm pain during a single youth baseball season.
  • Injuries associated with participation in sports and recreational activities account for 21 percent of all traumatic brain injuries among children in the United States.
  • According to the CDC, more than half of all sports injuries in children are preventable.
  • By age 13, 70 percent of kids drop out of youth sports. The top three reasons: adults, coaches and parents.
  • Among athletes ages 5 to 14, 28 percent of percent of football players, 25 percent of baseball players, 22 percent of soccer players, 15 percent of basketball players, and 12 percent of softball players were injured while playing their respective sports
  • Since 2000 there has been a fivefold increase in the number of serious shoulder and elbow injuries among youth baseball and softball players.

The Patriots

New England Patriots (9-3)

The New England Patriots are coming off a loss to the Green Bay Packers last week. As good as the Patriots played at Lambeau Field, Aaron Rodgers was just too much to handle. With that loss, the Patriots dropped to 9-3.
The Patriots lead the AFC East over the 7-5 Miami Dolphins, but they have their eyes set on grabbing the No. 1 seed in the AFC. The Broncos are also 9-3, but the Patriots hold the tie-breaker because they defeated the Broncos in Week 9. Bill Belichick and the Patriots know this is a must-win game if they want home field advantage in January.he Patriots offense ranks third overall in points scored and sixth in yards gained. Quarterback Tom Brady has thrown 28 touchdowns to six interceptions with a 101.1 passer rating. Tight end Robert Gronkowski has been excellent this year with a team-leading 910 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. Julian Edelman continues to provide short yardage gains, while Brandon LaFell is emerging as a reliable deep threat.
As for the defense, that's a different story. The Patriots defense has shown improvements, but there are still holes to fill. Despite adding Brandon browner and Darrelle Revis, the Patriots pass defense ranks 23rd overall in yards allowed. They will be in for a tough task against the Chargers passing attack. The biggest issue for the Patriots has been getting pressure on the opposing quarterback.
Jerod Mayo is out for the year, and Chandler Jones is questionable for this game with a hip injury.

The beginning report of Norton wrestling 2014-15

Its finally here, the sport that puts some hair on your chest. A sport where you have to dedicate everything you have so you can have your hand raised victoriously, 14 weeks of running stairs and halls and pushing your limits as far as they will go. Going into the wrestling season you cant expect to win, what you put in is what you get out in return. Sacrifice is what it takes. This being my last year I have made high goals I would like to achieve them with a big bang this year. Wrestling teaches you self-control and knowing your body like the back of your hand. This last year for me in wrestling will be the best year for me and my teammates and my fellow captains. Norton wrestling will be the new face of Norton High School. Fourteen lucky kids will get a chance to wrestle varsity this year, that's if they can prove themselves Captain Russel Hansen along with I and our co captains Alek Donovannd Adam Marcon have a big reputation to live up too this season, lets get em boys!

The Pats will bounce back!

It was probably inevitable that the Patriots would lose another game this season. As great as they've been for the past two months, their schedule contained plenty of land mines, the biggest probably sticking out of the fabled frozen tundra of Lambeau Field in Green Bay.
So their 26-21 loss to the Packers on Sunday wasn't necessarily a surprise. The Pats hung in there on D against the power of Aaron Rodgers and the Packers' offense, a super powered unit at home. Tom Brady threw two touchdown passes and led the Patriots into position to win late. The entire game probably came down to a handful of plays, the Packers simply seizing the upper hand on more of them.
